St Austell (Cornish: Sen Ostell) is a town in Cornwall, England, UK.
St Austell has a population of 22,658 (according to the 2001 census), larger than any other town in Cornwall (including the city of
Truro, the county's capital, which has population of 20,920).
As an unparished area, St Austell does not have a town council or parish council, however it is the site of Restormel Borough Council's headquarters.
The town has been neglected for many years but around 2002 the St Austell regeneration scheme started. Since then (5 years as of 2007) little or no re-development / construction has been achieved. It currently looks like a bomb site!
Flags mark the regeneration of St Austell - 8th August 2006 quote "St Austell has a lot to offer and a wonderful community spirit and we want to build on this. The project cements links with the
Eden Project and helps reflect the unique garden environment around St Austell and we want to make sure the new town centre reflects this theme for all to enjoy. It will make St Austell a really distinctive town.". The only saving grace for St Austell is the Eden Project.
